Benefits of Air Freight:

  • Speed – Due to the fast speed at which cargo planes travel, air freight is the quickest way to deliver cargo. This also makes it an ideal option for businesses transporting perishable goods.
  • Efficiency – Airlines tend to operate on very tight schedules, which results in reliable arrival and departure times.
  • Flexibility – Air freight is available to a wide range of destinations around the world making them an ideal choice to reach locations which other freight might not access.
  • Less Packaging/Storage – In order to reduce weight, air freight usually requires less packaging than other transport methods. This not only saves time and money but can also result in less wastage.
  • Reduced Risk – Airlines offer an elevated level of security for cargo, as safety controls are closely monitored. This helps to reduce risk of theft and damage.

How long could air freight take?

The average time for items to be transported via air freight is 4-6 working days. Although, items sent via express air freight can potentially be delivered in 1-2 working days. However, these times will depend on the distance of the journey, and whether there will be any layovers.

Prohibited items for Air Freight:

It is worth noting that certain items are not allowed to be transported by air freight. This may be due to health and safety or could be due to the difficulty in storage. These items include the following:

  1. Fireworks, ammunition, firearms, or explosives
  2. Cylinders containing compressed air or gas, such as fire extinguishers, aerosols, and deodorant.
  3. Corrosive items, such as mercury or batteries.
  4. Radioactive material
  5. Toxic or infectious substances, such as rat poison
  6. Flammable liquids, such as methanol and gasoline

Please be aware that there may be other restrictions depending on what is allowed to be imported to your chosen destination. This will also depend on specific airline as some have additional prohibited items.
